Job Title: Site Seed Technician
Institution: Dupont Crop Protection
Description: * Continuously streamline seed acquisition and distribution systems, and develop an external network to maintain an appropriate supply of all weed/crop species used in Ag Global Technology (AG/GT) global biology research. * Develop and implement internal processes to provide weed/crop seed for which there is no reliable or cost effective external source. * Ensure that seed quality is monitored as part of a continuous improvement process, and that seed technology methodology (protocols, SOPs) is up-to-date. * Maintain compliance with Federal permits related to USDA/APHIS protocols. Provide guidance to facilities globally regarding import/export permits for seed. * Maintain a close working relationship with the USDA and various Ministries of Ag (USDA’s foreign counterparts) in order to procure, hold and dispose of seeds under most current regulations. * Responsible for leveraging permit compliance knowledge and government relationships to obtain permits for “non-seed” organisms. * Stay abreast of latest seed-related technologies and regulations. * Apply a combination of horticultural and biological expertise, and use the skills ot advance quality within Discovery. * Identifying and employing the use of new seed treatment technologies are important in overcoming seed-borne pests and/or pathogens, as well as overcoming dormancy issues in weed seed. * Ownership of all crop/weed seed sourcing/inventory control (web-based),and distribution to ensure quality within AG/GT screening. * Make recommendations and develop solutions throughout all aspects of position.
Requirements: * BS/MS degree in seed science, agronomy, plant science, or relevant field of study. * Previous experience is preferred, especially seed germination, seed testing, and weed science. * Knowledge and understanding of seed identification and viability. * Demonstrated ability to influence others and effective communication.
