Job Title: Associate Scientist
Institution: Midwest Research Institute
Description: Midwest Research Institute has a position available for an Associate Scientist in our Energy and Life Sciences Division, Agricultural Sciences Section. This position conducts technical tasks and field and laboratory experimentation under general supervision using established or project-specific protocols and SOPs. More experienced staff members may perform project/task leader duties including helping to draft monthly or final reports, especially for small projects or projects requiring routine analysis and testing. This position may provide guidance and train technicians and entry-level staff on general biological and plant research procedures and techniques.
Requirements: * B.S. in Horticulture, Crop Science, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry or related field, plus three years of relevant experience; or * M.S. in Horticulture, Crop Science, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry or related field. * Experience in a field research environment, basic indoor and outdoor plant cultivation skills, and ability to understand relevant federal regulations, QA/Safety/SOPs. * Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff at all levels in a team based environment. * Experience working in a greenhouse, preparing plant growth media and routine data collection and pest management. * PC skills and ability to learn new software and systems. * Ability to work independently. * Must be detail oriented. Willing to work evenings and weekends, where necessary. * Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
