| Description: | JOB PURPOSE:
With minimal supervision, operate and maintain greenhouse and head house facilities, advising greenhouse clients on proper procedures and providing supervision and guidance for graduate and undergraduate student workers or other research staff.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.) Operate and maintain Greenhouse Complex environmental operation systems to provide high quality growing environments. E/60%
2.) Establish and implement a preventative maintenance program (PM) for greenhouses, growth chambers and growth room facilities. E/15%
3.) Implement a safe and efficient pesticide program meeting EPA and other regulatory requirements, including maintaining an equipment and pesticide inventory. E/15%
4.) Provide direction and instruction for greenhouse clients and supervise undergraduate and graduate workers or other research staff as needed. E/10% |
| Requirements: | EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in plant-related sciences with 3 years experience in greenhouse facilities operation. Directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE:
Pesticide applicator's license required.
Pay & Work Schedule
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Band: 05 ($ 30,274.00 - $ 56,015.00)
Additional Comments
Individual must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, make daily decisions as required and be able to interact regularly with a varied greenhouse clientele in a client focused manner. This position services the needs of a diverse clientele, so the ability to cooperate and communicate effectively is paramount.
Greenhouse operations need to be properly functioning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, so candidates must appreciate that working demands for this position occasionally fail to fit into a standard work schedule.
Work is primarily in a greenhouse environment. Individual must be able to lift 45 pounds and be willing to perform work overhead.
Special Requirements
Pesticide applicator's license required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of greenhouse operations and environmental control strategies essential. Plant pest management and control measures experience required.
