| Description: | This position is responsible for the management and daily operation of the Clemson University Biosystems Research Complex, a facility comprised of a 100,000 square foot research laboratory, 15,000 square foot greenhouse support building and 40,000 square foot greenhouse range. This facility houses collaborative research programs, by investigators from across multiple disciplines. These programs are designed to accelerate the discovery and application of economically significant new technologies in agriculture, the environment and human health. The facility is intended to serve as a key science complex to attract new technology based industries to South Carolina.
The incumbent must possess the skills to independently integrate the needs and requirements of a diverse group of Faculty, Graduate Students and other Researchers with the facilities of the Biosystems Research Complex. Areas of in-depth expertise should include molecular biology, genetics, plant physiology, horticulture, greenhouse management and facilities management. The incumbent must demonstrate creativity, flexibility, resourcefulness and tact in order to successfully carry out the job requirements.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1 Provide daily management and operation for the Biosystems Research Complex. E/35%
2. Function as BRC Building Security Coordinator. E/15%
3. Serve as liaison between BRC clients and University Facilities. E/15%
4. Ensure compliance with all regulatory safety and health guidelines. E/5%
5. Instruct and coordinate education programs for Greenhouse users and students in greenhouse operations, greenhouse management. E/10%
6. Respond to and coordinate researcher needs for infrastructure improvements, repairs and modifications. E/10%
7. Supervise and evaluate laboratory and greenhouse manager. E/5%
8. Provide budgetary oversight for laboratory operation and greenhouse manager. E/5%

| Requirements: | Minimum Qualifications:
MS in agricultural sciences, biological or natural sciences is required. Three years of greenhouse management experience is required in combination with laboratory experience in molecular biology or chemistry research; directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of stated work experience.
This individual must be able to demonstrate flexibility and creativity in their ability to problem solve and provide solutions to varied and diverse conditions. SC Pesticide Applicator's License must be secured within 3 months of date hire.
Experience in building construction or facilities management is recommended.
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Salary range: $50,000 - $65,000 dependent upon experience and education.

Programs housed in the Biosystems Research Complex are multidisciplinary collaborations of faculty and scientists from across the University. Employee works independently with first line supervision from the Chief Operating Officer of the SC Experiment Station. Second line supervision is by the Vice President, PSA, Clemson University.
Work is primarily in a greenhouse and laboratory environment. Individual must be able to lift 45 pounds and be willing to perform work overhead.
